Ring-Shaped Molecule ensures Genetic Stability
Researchers in the lab of Kim Nasmyth have identified a possible reason for the increase in spontaneous abortions in older women. A multisubunit complex called cohesin seems to play a central role. The molecule forms a ring structure that mediates sister chromatid cohesion and has to remain stable for several decades. The journal Molecular Cell publishes the paper by Christian Häring in its current issue.
