VBC Summer School - Symposium and Awards
On September 3, 2010, the first VBC Summer School culminated in a scientific mini-symposium held at the IMP. The summer students presented the projects they had been working on for the past ten weeks. The event was entirely organised by the students themselves and was an impressive demonstration of the skills and knowledge they had acquired during those summer months.
Following the talks, four of the students were awarded prizes for their accomplishments. The winners of the VBC Summer School Prizes 2010 are:
- Violet Zhe Feng (Imperial College London): Biorad Summer School Prize
- Leo Otsuki (Univeristy of Cambridge): VWR Summer School Prize
- Gideon Loevinsohn (Brown University, Providence): Invitrogen Summer School Prize
- Wendan Li (Columbia University, New York): IMP Summer School Prize
The VBC Summer School, an initiative of IMP Director Barry Dickson, was carried out for the first time in 2010. It was jointly organized with the neighbouring institutes IMBA and MFPL. Out of more than 200 applicants, 22 undergraduate students from 13 nations were selected into the program. The ambitious scientific schedule was accompanied by a number of social and cultural activities in and around Vienna.
